Rick and Martha Vance  have been married for 27 years.  Both grew up in Portland and met in high school.  Rick is a sports fan- enjoys baseball, basketball, football, and especially racing.  Martha enjoys reading taking walks with the dogs and spending time with her family.  They have twin daughters now 23 and two pet dogs (Sugar and Spice).  We purchased a home in Windham in 1985 and currently still live there.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have.  I will do everything in my power to train our students to drive safely and ensure that each student has great visual skills and proper attitudes and behaviors whenever they are behind the wheel.  All vehicles are dual controlled and inspected by the State Of Maine Driver Education Department (Bureau of Motor Vehicles).

Simply put- Each student at VANCE'S DRIVING SCHOOL, will develop excellent driving skills and defensive driving habits that will make our roads safer for everyone.  Each student will have the skills necessary and the ability to be able to pass their State Of Maine driving test on their first attempt.  We feature our exclusive road test licensing program offer:  If a student of Vance's Driver Ed Program participates in our pre-driving test program and is unable to obtain their drivers license on the first attempt, we will provide them instruction for their next road test at NO COST!  WE WILL STAND BEHIND OUR WORK.  That is how confident I am in the type of instruction we provide here at VANCE'S- The Ultimate Driver Ed Program.  My success record speaks for itself- 98 students passing their drivers license test in a row.  I look forward to the challenge of breaking that success record..*Offer is subject to instructor availability as road tests may get scheduled during a scheduled classroom teaching time and we may not be available for your road test appointment time.  We have no control over when the road test is scheduled.  Implying that anyone is guaranteed to pass a road test is not legal according to Maine driver education rules and laws.  Our offer does nothing other than suggest that we are confident in our teaching and in our ability to help drivers learn to do everything correctly as required by the state examiners during their drivers test.  At Vance's Driving School- WE ARE WILLING TO STAND BEHIND OUR WORK!

My background- 

I graduated from The University Of Southern Maine in 1983 and also attended Keene State College in New Hampshire where I completed courses in driver education.  I first started teaching driver education and industrial arts education for Freeport High School in 1983.  During the summer of 1983,  I was asked to take over the driver education program for Gorham High School.  The two high school driver education programs kept me busy and soon my younger brother graduated college and decided that he would like to get involved in teaching driver education.  Vance's Driving School was started and together we grew the company to have over 25 employees and 15 different locations in Southern Maine. Vance's Driving School and our sister school Best-Way Driving School provided the best driver education program and help thousands of students learn to drive. (Best-Way Driving School was sold in 2006 to Jessie Merrill and Mr. Merrill now owns and runs Best-Way Driving School).  Rick and Ron Vance have helped over 80,000 students successfully obtain their drivers licenses.  That means we have spent a lot of hours both in the classroom and on the road teaching driver education.  We have the experience to do the job right.

Mr. Driver Ed; as all of his former colleagues liked to call him; (Rick Vance), holds a Bachelor of Science degree in education and has fourteen years experience in education teaching both high school and middle school students along with over twenty years in the driver education business.  In fact almost every driving school program in Southern Maine has been impacted by having instructors who were trained and learned under Mr. Vance's guidance and experience.

Vance's Driving School was the leader and considered by most to be the best for many years in the driver education industry and Vance's taught more students to drive than any other active school.  Vance's Driving School had locations from Kennebunk to Bath; from Portland to Bridgton and everywhere in between.   Mr. Vance decided to sell certain locations; some to former instructors as he focused on building Victory Lane Indoor Karting, his newest venture in business which began in 2006.  Now that Victory Lane has become successful and is able to run without the help and guidance of its owner and founder Rick Vance, he has decided to re-enter the driver education field and continue on in the field of education as he now has the time to devote to each student who wants to learn to become excellent defensive driver.
